"Black Dutch Irish" Harrells
I'm intrigued by the term "Black Dutch" or "Black Dutch Irish" that I've encountered periodically while trying to research the Harrell family ancestry. While some Harrell contributors have alluded to Native American connections (which is, of course, quite possible) I had NEVER heard the term "Black Dutch Irish" prior to Sunday, March 12, 2000, when my dad, Donald Ray Harrell (born in Wheaton, Missouri in 1934) used it, without further explanation, to describe his MOTHER, Daisy Jane Creason-Harrell's, heritage! I'd be interested in hearing other Harrell's perceptions of the rather enigmatic term, "Black Dutch Irish."
