GRANDMA HARRAL DEAD
Mrs. M.J. Harral, better known as "Grandma" Harral, who was in her eightieth year, died at her home in the Harmon community Sunday morning. She was one of the oldest settlers in Lamar county, as well as one of the best and most favorably known in the county. She moved with her husband from Mississippi to the community where she died about a half-century ago and has been living in the same house in which she died nearly fifty years. Her husband was Leonard Harral, Sr., who died twenty-five years ago, and who was well known by many of the old settlers, among them being Col. E.L. Dohoney, Uncle Cal Rutherford and Aaron Wilburn of Petty and Capt. A.P. Boyd, founder of the News, and many others.
When she first came here wild buffaloes roamed the prairies and deer were as plentiful as rabbits are now. She lived a quiet, unostenatatious (sic) life, but was loved and honored by all who knew her. She possessed considerable property, but lived a plain comfortable life.
Nine children survive her, all of whom were at her bedside when she died. They are Mrs. M.S. Snow, Harmon B. Harral, Dr. R.D. Harral, Mrs. Martha A. Ellington and Miss Bell Harral, all of the Harmon community, and Mrs. Dr. W.T. Booth of Denison, Leonard H. Harral, Jr., of Sterrett, I.T. (sic), and Judson L. and James R. Harral of Hale County, Texas.
Grandma Harral had long been a consistent member of the Baptist church and died in the faith of her religion. She was laid to rest Monday at 11 o'clock at Hickory Grove, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives."
The above is from a transcription of the obituary.
