Ken,
I went to Mapquest and you are right. Salmunster is not coming up on the map. I have checked my papers and it is listed as Salmunster, Hessen. I could find Hessen on the map. Maybe this helps. I have known of two at least of my family who have gone to Germany and found Harnishfeger's there. SOme have talked with a Joseph Harnishfeger.
We have information about Henry Harnischfeger from two books. One is a book called "1100 Jahre Salmunster" written by Otto Hansmann-Joachim Schirmer.Copyright 1986 by Otto Hansmann Verlag, Gelnhauser Strabe 20, 6483 Bad Soden-Salmunster. St. Hansen. Telefon 0 60 56/82 38
These things don't mean much to me. But, this was listed on the back page of the information I have from one of my cousins who has been to Germany. The other book is an Autobiography about Henry Harnischfeger. I have a copy and it has imprinted on the inside"The State Historical Society of Wisconsin" written Dec. 1929 Milwaukee, Wis. USA
