You asked if Ben R. Harney was ever in Middletown KY. Yes, I'm sure he spent time there, probably even grew up there. His father was born there, one of 7 children (See 1850 KY Census, Jefferson county, Louisville, 2d district, p.181). Also Ben R's half brother, Selby Harney, was born there (1855), which is more indication that his father and other relations were still in Middletown. Ben R's cousins were all born in Louisville too.

I believe that his birth in Memphis came about as a result of his father being in the military. He was stationed there at the time of Ben R's birth, but Middletown & Louisville KY was always "home".
