I am looking for anyone who researches the family of Benjamin Robertson Harney, famous Ragtime musician. He was born in 1871, and I am not sure WHERE, and am trying to find out for sure. I have seen: Middletown, KY (this could be Jefferson Co. or Bourbon Co.), Middlesboro, Bell Co. KY, and Memphis, TN. I do have the 1850 Jefferson Co. KY census listing Ben's grandparents and father, etc.:
Harney, John H. 44 Editor, b. KY
Harney, Martha 44 b. KY
Hughes, Wm. E. 30 Editor, b. PA
Hughes, Eliza 22 b. IN
Hughes, Edward 2 b. KY
Harney, Benjamin 20 Teacher b. IN
Harney, Wm. W. 18 b. IN
Harney, Selley? 13 b. KY
Harney, Ellen S. 9 b. KY
Harney, Margaretta 6 b. KY
Harney, John 4 b. KY
So, Ragtime Ben's dad, also named Ben, was in Jefferson Co. (Louisville). I read that Ragtime Ben Harney was in Middlesboro in the 1880s. I welcome any info anyone may have. Thanks!
