I am looking for information on Co. Tipperary Ireland Quirks: Edmund (wife Mary Harney married Fethard Parish, Co.Tipp.), William, Thomas & Mary Lonergan and hope to contact their descendants.

Surnames: Quirk, Quirke, Hackett, Harney, Lonergan, Archer, Wall

This is in regard to four Quirke siblings born in Co. Tipperary in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Three immigrated to the US and then used the spelling Quirk.

Some of the information on them is found in letters sent to Edmund Quirk by his cousin Fr. William Quirke who was a parish priest and later an Archdeacon. His birth place is Rathsallagh, Parish of Fethard in 1808. Early in his youth the family moved to Ballyvadlea, Cloneen. . He was ordained in Maynooth, Cappawhite. He was in various places ending up at Cashel. He died Nov.28, 1887 and was interred at Cashel Church. RC church .He was a life long nationalist and took a part in the land agitation movement.

My gr-gr-grandfather Thomas Quirk b Cashel, Co. Tipp. abt. 1802 came to the Town of Lisbon, Waukesha Co. Wisconsin abt. 1842. He died on 28 Mar 1882. In Ireland he married Ann or Ellen Ann Hackett b abt. 1802. They and their children Catherine b abt. 1829, Mary b abt. 1830, Michael b 1832, Patrick, James b abt. 1835, Elizabeth abt. 1841, and Thomas b abt.1842 emigrated from Ireland, some separately, between abt. 1842-1850. All came to Waukesha Co. WI.

Thomas' brother Edmund b abt. 1795 and Mary Harney were married in the Parish of Fethard on May 23, 1825. Their witness was Johanna Gleeson. Edmund left from Fethard Parish, Co. Tipp with his wife and most of his children emigrating with the Power Group settling in Texas in 1834. (Power led a group from Ireland to settle on a land grant.) Children all born Fethard Parish Co. Tipperary Ire were.: Catherine Margaret b 07 May 1827 Tullemore, Mary b 08 Dec 1828 Tullemore, Ellen b 18 Apr 1830 Rasalla, Bridget b 05 Jul 1831 Rasalla,, William b 20 Nov 1832 Tullamain, John b1825, Margaret b 30 Jan 1826, Judith b. 20 Nov 1832 in Tullemain. Mary Harney Quirk who did not want to leave Ireland died almost immediately after arriving in Texas. She was buried in 1834 on the banks of the Mission River in Refugio Co Texas.

Thomas' sister Mary b abt. 1790-99 married David Lonergan b abt. 1784 in Cashel. Co Tipp. They emigrated in the 1830's first settling in upstate New York and then moved to Wisconsin in about 1842-44 settling in Addison, Washington Co., WI. Most of their 13 children were born in Ireland: John b 1820, Mary b 1821, Michael b 1822 Cashel, Patrick b 18 Mar 1828 Cashel, Thomas b1831 Dennis b 1835 Cashel, James Edward born: 13 Nov 1837 Cashel, Ann, Ellen, Margaret and Katherine.

I believe but cannot confirm much of the following: At least one adult daughter Ellen stayed behind and married a Mr. Archer. Their children Patrick Henry b January 1843 in Ire. and Ellen b November 1835 in Ire. emigrated in 1854. There was also a brother John who emigrated at some time. Ellen Lonergan Archer eventually emigrated as she was living in Milwaukee with her children Patrick and Ellen per the 1880 census record.

Thomas' brother William stayed in Tipperary there is very little information about him. He was still living in 1864. His wife had died by 1858. All of his children were married by 1864. One of Williams' daughters was married to Ned Wall's son, Toni, and one of the Wall women was married to William's son. (By 1864 the Walls had received a bequest from a Wall family member who died in America. per Fr. Quirke). Like so many in Ireland William had financial difficulties.

I would love to hear that someone also shares these relatives,
Mary

Other than the dates given for Thomas's family which were mostly gotten from census record figuring and the supposition on the Archers, I got the rest of the information from a cousin who descends from Edmund Quirk. I am posting this information with Edmund's descendant's permission and am not taking credit for the research done.
