I have the Harman genealogy in which the story of the rescue of Mary Ingles is told. There is no mention of any Maxwell involved in the rescue, but your Maxwell could well have been killed in the raid by the Indians. The Harmans in Va. used an 'A' in Harman, while those who left Va. and went to N.C. used an 'O' in Harmon. However, with the mention of an involvement with Ingles, that would seem to place your Rebecca in Va.The fact that both daughters used both spellings for their sons rather muddies the waters though. The Harmon genealogy is very poorly indexed, but I will look further for any Maxwell connections.
The rescue of Mary Ingles was more a case of Mrs. Ingles stumbling across Adam Harmon and two of his sons at Eggleston Springs,in southwest Va. who were there summering their cattle.
