William & Jane (Hall) Harmon

Some researchers have attached William as a son of Peter & Margaret (Choulyn) Harmon. Unless there is further information on him, we have NO EVIDENCE to believe he is a son of theirs.

Here is what little I know about him: William Harmon b. bef. 1764 [21 to appear on tax list] married abt 1807 to Jane Hall. [per one researcher, with no source or location] It was THOUGHT he married in Wayne Co., KY, but there is no record of the marriage there, and they were NOT married in Greene Co., TN.

He is the first recorded Harmon in Greene Co., TN. 1785 Greene Co., TN tax list Capt. John Newmans' List, 250 acres on Lick Creek and 1 white poll. [This was also the first tax list recorded for Greene Co., TN] He disappears from Greene Co. by the next tax year and doesn't reappear. I have not checked land records to see when he sold his land. Peter Harmon did not receive his land grant in Greene Co., TN until 1787.

There is no evidence in any of the known documents of Peter or Margaret Harmon to suggest he knew or associated with them. If you have ANY information on William & Jane (Hall) Harmon please post it.
