John,
I just came across this by chance.
I worked for John for about three years as a location photographer when I lived in LA in the early 80's.
I remember John was in his 90's then and he lived on 5th or 7th St. in Santa Monica right near Zucky's deli on Wilshire. He was gathering material for his life story at the time and I was his sometime assistant. He really got mad if I forgot to bring pencils (go figure)!I went many places with him and he told me lots of stories, Quite a charachter. I loved him a lot even though he was verbally abusive sometimes. I chacked that up to age.
