Hey Joe, I was wondering if you could help me out a little. One of my ancestors was a William Harkins (1788-1861) who married Nancy Ann Stell. They moved to Texas in 1857 with the Stells, but i'm wondering if there's any connection to him and Hugh Harkins family.I've found a few references (with nothing to back it up) that William's father was James Harkins (born 1766).I've found a lot of James Harkins' in the census' for South Carolina, but I have no idea how to verify that he is MY James, as they only list the heads of families. There's a James living in the old niney-six district in 1779, along with a John and Thomas Harkins. In 1800 there's a James living in Newberry District.1820 there's one in Pendleton.1830 there's a James and John Harkins in Anderson County (which was formed from Pendleton), In 1840 there'sJames andHugh Harkins in Anderson County.I wish I could figure out if i'm on the right track or not.All I know is that his son, William Harkins, was supposedly born in South Carolina, but he first shows up in Morgan, Georgia in 1808 when he marries Nancy Ann Stell. He may have had a brother named Thomas or Robert Harkins. Thanks!
