Neta, did your Charles come from Ardsbeg or from Stramartin? It's only now I'm realising that I do not know this.My GGgrandfather James came from the mill in Ardsbeg and built a new mill in Stramartin, probably because the family in Ardsbeg had grown too large and he had to take his skill further down the road.I think my Ggrandfather Jimmy was born Stramartin in 1846. By 1857 there are two James and one Charles listed there - I only realised this last night.By the 1901 census Charles has disappeared and my father has never heard of him.
in 1830 there were only two James listed Sr an Junior, in Derryconnor, which is adjacent to Ardsbeg. That could be Stramartin James and his father again.
Did you visit the Ardsbeg Harkins in 1997?I'm sorry you did not see my uncle Jimmy - Bella should have directed you up.
My father says the Ardsbeg Harkins are related to us, but he does not know how far back.He remembers visiting Fanny Harkin in Ardsbeg as a small boy with his mother. As a young man he met a Manus Harkin from there who tried to explain their connection, but he has forgotten with time.
