I question that spelling...Heigenroder...I think it is Hergenroeder from all the archive information I have seen.At what point did Harkenrider become the family name?I've gone back to 1853 as soon as Johnnes got here, he changed his name but others before had changed their name...but why??I go back to Johnnes who emigrated to Shelton (now Yoder) Indiana in Allen County in 1853.Had the pleasure of meeting Tom Harkenrider from NY and we think our common ancestorust have been in Germany.Incidentally, the name in the 13th century was Hergrode.Got this from an old geneology directory. All of the various Hergenroders and similar names are from the same source.Did you know there is a little burg in Germany about 15 miles south of Darmstadt named Herchenrode? There is another town about 15-20 miles northwest of Frankfurt named Hergenrode?I have visited both places. There are Herchenroeders in phone books in many villages west of Wurzburg.
