DNA surname project for Hereford/Harford/Hurford

Hi folks,

For anyone interested, we have begun a DNA project for those with the Hereford surname. Although most of us know we are descended from the immigrant James Hereford, there are some who do not or are not. In particular, there are those with HARFORD or HURFORD surnames. There is also a mysterious Peter Hereford of Elizabeth Cittye Virginia in 1623 and the Mark/Malachi line...

To learn about the process, go to
The test is a simple cheek swab (no blood!) and the results are confidential. The basic test is 12-markers - not useful for anything but genealogy - in other words, Big Brother can't get anything of value info from it!! The test must be done by a male carrying the Hereford/Harford/Hurford surname because only males carry the "Y" chromosome (there are other tests for women, but not surname studies). The basic test costs $101 payable to FamilyTree DNA by check or credit card.

If you want to sign up--or have a male you want to test, go to
