Edmond Hair (sic) is named in a probate court record in Decatur County, Georgia.I have a copy of the index entry, but not the actual probate record.See: http://sofkee.org/haire/EdmondHairEstate.htmhttp://sofkee.org/haire/EdmondHairEstate.htm
I've finally connected my 2-great grandfather John Hair(e) (who lived in Gadsden County and Liberty County in Florida and Decatur County in Georgia) to somebody other than his own descendants... Jesse Hair, who lived in Baker County Georgia in 1850 and Decatur County Georgia in 1870, was apparently his brother.Though I have as yet found no census record for Jesse for 1860, he sold land (260 acres) in Gadsden County, Florida, in 1868, and I believe that he may have owned that land from before 1850, since the Gadsden County courthouse burned in November of 1849 and no record of him purchasing any of it can be found. This land was near (just south of) Concord and my 3-great grandfather Levi Butler's land was within 3/4 of a mile of it to the west, though quite a bit further by road.My 2-great grandfather John Hair(e) married Eliza E. Butler, Levi's daughter, in Gadsden County in 1850, and I think that John must have been in the area because he was tending to Jesse's land there.
What I'm wondering is... does anyone know where Jesse Hair fits into the larger family? The three census records that I've found for him show Jesse as having been born in SC (1850), GA (1870), and NC (1880), so take your pick but I imagine one of the two Carolinas is most likely.John Hair was born in Georgia according to all census records and that would comport with him being a younger brother of Jesse in a Hair/Hare/Haire family slowly migrating south...
