Phyllis and Miles Hardy
I am in need of some clarification!Yesterday, I unearthed answers to my Hardy lineage that I've been searching for almost five years! As you all know, when one more piece of the puzzle comes to light, then another whole layer is uncovered!
These are the things I know: Nancy Hardy married Solomon Melton around 1826.Nancy was born on 27 Jan 1808.Solomon was born on 22 March 1790.Their sons James L and William were married to my GGGrandmother, Samantha A Gunn.James was killed at Cold Harbor during the Civil War.Another GGGrandmother, Ann Griggs Ward Smith married Nancy's oldest brother, William Hardy in 1864.They had three sons, James Rue, William Dowdle and John Gordon Hardy. In the 1870 and 1880 census, Phyllis Hardy either lived next door on with Ann and William. In 1880, Phyllis was 92 leading me to believe she was William and Nancy Hardy's mother.
Also, yesterday, I discovered a Widow's Pension application for Phyllis Hardy as the widow of Miles Hardy, a veteran of the War of 1812.He is said to have died in 1824.
I know that my Hardy's were in the Lowndes and Dallas county areas in the 1830's, in Macon Co, Al in 1840, in Chattooga Co, GA in 1850 and back in Macon Co in 1855.We know Phyllis is the wife of Miles Hardy, although, with so many of these Hardy men, there are TONS of Miles Hardys! We know that Phyllis was from Maryland, as well, and supposedly, her father is John Miles.
If ANY of this rings a bell, or you can lead me to the RIGHT Miles Hardy, it would certainly be appreciated!I do have some bible records from Solomon and Nancy Hardy Melton that I would share!
Does anyone else find this as confusing????
