Lou,
Are the names you mentioned in this post on a photograph or family bible?I know now that my Nancy Hardy Melton was in Dallas or Lowndes County from about 1830 to 1850.She married Solomon Melton.I'm not sure if they married in Georgia on the way to Alabama or in Alabama. Two of their sons married my Great Great Grandmother.James L married Samantha Gunn in Tallapoosa County in 1862, and he died in the Civil War.She married William Hardy Melton in 1867.Her only child, James Ella Melton was from her marriage to James.
I get so confused with all these Hardy's, moving in packs!from Virginia, to South Carolina through Georgia to Alabama.
I have discovered that Nancy's younger brother, William Hardy married Ann Griggs Ward Smith. She was also another great Great Grandmother. Her first two husbands died, James Ward, in the Civil War, I'm not sure about James Smith. She had three children by William Hardy and lived in Troup County Ga.Her granddaugher, Gladys Hardy, had corresponded with one of my cousins' mothers, about 30 years ago and we just found the letters.
I would love to make the right Hardy connection and yours in one of the few posts that list a Nancy Hardy Melton in Dallas County. If you have any further information, I certainly would appreciate and be happy to share anything I have.
Thank you in advance foryour time.
