Well, suppose that Internet genealogists are correct and that you are indeed descended from Richard Hardy, uncle of the William Hardy who received the aforementioned visitation. I know of nothing to preclude that; so far, DNA tests have been inconclusive regarding Hardy family origins. In that case, you would be descended from Mary Stanley, who I have mentioned, and who is herself a direct descendant of Edward I of England. However, DNA has so far suggested that the Massachusetts and Virginia Hardys are probably separate families... and if I had to bet on one of them being descended from the prestigious Hardys, it would be the Virginians. But maybe I'm just saying that because I'm descended from the Virginia Hardys myself. :)
For DNA results, see: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/hardy/resultshttp://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/hardy/results
H-11, H-2, and H-32 are Massachusetts Hardys, while H-30 and H-24 are Virginia Hardys. The Massachusetts ones contradict and some indicate recent African(!) ancestry, while the Virginian ones seem to zero in on a typically European haplogroup, but at a greater distance than we would expect from people descended from as recent an ancestor as the Sheriff of London. Like I said, inconclusive so far.
