hardy family bardfield saling essex uk
several posts some time ago [catty, falconer, brooks]put some info on -line and i would like to follow this up.
my gg grandfather was alfred hardy [b1831] who lived in bardfield saling [cen1841] with his mother ,eliz hardy and brothers john, arthur, plus twin sister sarah. no father listed. also living nearbyein b/saling were a mary hardy age 15 and a charles hardy age 15.its possible these two older children also belonged to elizabeth [poss widow]
elizabeth appears again on the 1871 census living with arthur her son.she gave her b/place as finchingfield.
i believe she died 1878.
her husband was possibly also from finchingfield.his name and the maiden name of elizabeth are the problem i need to solve.
also living in b/saling 1841c were the turpin family .pharoah turpin was a blacksmith and his daughter mary married alfred[b1831]
alfred and mary had a large family and stayed in b/saling for over 50 years.their eldest son william [b~1854] is my ggrandfather.
family tale tells how he brought a flock/herd north to great lumley, next to chester le street on the banks of the wear in county durham.he appears first on the 1881c living on west farm as dairyman with his wife catherine[o,hara] and first child margaret.
they had a large family, all the boys c of e and the girls catholic.
eventually the family was drawn into mining at the nearbye pit.
williams first son was also william [b1882]and he is my g/father.
there is still a large hardy presence in this area.
it seems that, and i quote meryl catty 2003 that the hardy families of finchingfield spread far and wide and were prolific.cetainly this also applies to the bardfield saling family.all i need to do is connect them.
