Does anyone know who the Will Hardy age 10, John C. Hardy age 8, and Stephen Hardy age 6 in the 1860 Bastrop County, TX census belong to? All three give their place of birth as Alabama. They are living in the household of Charles and Rebecca Barrette. Rebecca is old enough to be their mother and Charles their step-father, however there are several older Barrette children. The confusion with this is that the oldest Barrette child, Louisa, is listed as age 17, while Charles Barrette, the head of the household is listed as 27, too young to be her father. I think, maybe, that the John C Hardy is my ancestor. Help.
