Thomas Hardy, b. 1605, had a son, Thomas, b. abt. 1635, who had son Thomas, b. 29 Jan 1667. Thomas, b. 1605, had a son, William, b. abt. 1644, m. Sarah Savory, who had a son, Thomas, b. 14 Dec 1695, who married his cousin, Martha Hardy, dtr. of Joseph, b. 1674, and Mary Burbank. Thomas, b. 1605, had another son, John, husband of Mary Jackman, who had a son, Thomas, b. 17 Mar 1689. Thomas, b. 1605, had yet another son, Jacob, b. abt. 1649, who had a son named Thomas, b. Dec. 1705, m. Mary Unknown.

It's hair-pulling, but there are many more Thomas Hardys (I have three in my direct line)to sift through and many intermarriages. So when a female Hardy is listed as married to a Male Hardy, Hardy may or may not be her maiden name.
