I'm posting the following re Preston Hardy of Jackson Co., GA.
Rough notes:
I believe Lewis Hardy is a brother of Preston Hardy, but do not have proof yet. From the census records I am compiling on this family, it appears that Charles Hardy may not be part of this Hardy family.I believe he was born in Florida, if I remember correctly. Will check this again.
All census records below are in Jackson Co., GA:
1820 Preston Hardy has 5 males in his household, excluding himself, and 2 females, excluding his wife, Nancy Haggard.
Lewis Hardy is in Jackson Co., also.
1830 Preston appears to have six sons and four daughters.
Lewis Hardy in Jackson Co., also.
1840 Preston has two sons and four daughters in his household. Son, Josiah, is living next door. Daughter, Nancy, is in her own household as spouse of Joseph P. Williamson.
1850 Preston is a widower. Has daus, Betsy, Martha and Mary Ann, and son, Benjamin, in his household.
1860 Benjamin is now head of household. Preston is living with him along with sisters, Elizabeth and Mary Ann. Sister, Martha, is in her own household as spouse of Lawrence B. Freeman.
I cannot find documentation of the other children of Preston Hardy.I've been unable to find a Will for him. Below is the will of his son Benjamin.
If anyone can provide documentation of the other children, I would greatly appreciate it.
(If this thing comes out discombobulated, contact me at [email protected] I'll send a copy.)
