Hardy, Aquilla
Comments:The gender of Aquilla Hardy is male.
Spouse:Mary Jane Skinner
Marriage Date:May 31, 1841

Notes:This record can be found in the County Court Records, Film # 1293900 - 1293901
Aquilla may have been Daniel Hardy's son, but the source of this information is unreliable and has found to be wrong on many occasions.Itcould b thatDaniel was traveling with other Hardy kin and someone mixed it up in family notes.
But the poplelistd inmynotes are in general your kin in on way or another.Enjoy.
Hardy to Virginia is the hardest to straightnout!!!
My notes-John Hardy 1613 arrived (I read one time) after 1647
as a shipwright and came with his wife and 6 children.
Children as best I can gather.
1. George Hardy b.1633 in , Bedfordshire, England
see- Va immigration 1650
2. Emmanuel Hardy b. 1635 in Bedfordshire, England

5. Olive Hardy b. 1639
6. Richard Hardy b. 1640 in , Bedfordshire England
7. Deborah abt 1641 Bedfordshire England
8. Alice about 1643
9. Ann Hardy b. 1642 in , Isle of Wight, Virginia
10.Isabel Hardy b. 1650 in , Isle of Wight, Virginia
Some people think he married Alice Bennett Johnson and
had more children after 1650- but he would not have
had 2 wives at once. The proof will be in finding a
reference to Olive´s death which I have seen as 1675
but no proof.
Mary Covington wasJohnHardys mother, but who was Marys fathr? Most people say dmund but I found this.
MaryCovington
Birth: December 1684-- Somersetshire, Great Kuney, MD
Death: --
Spouse: MaryCovington
Parents: JohnCovingtonMary
John Hardy 1740
The will lists 8 children and 3 stepchildren Ingram.
The will lists Sarah (Cunningham),Richard (as
executor),and Mary (Anderson). Also under 18 years
children are Danie (Daniel),Robert, William, John and
Covington. Covington is the youngest.
Slaves listed for the benefit of African Americans looking for Hardy ancestors are:
Amy
Dan
Rose
Adam
Silvey
Jade
Hanner
Milley.
I have seen the abstraction of the will of ann´s father signed 1769 and his name was
Richard Williams (b.bef. 1730 and Agnes bef. 1830). John received a good marriage settlement for Ann from her father Richard.
John Hardy’s 1st wife is Ann Williams b. before 1751, d. before. 1793
2nd wife of John Hardy is widow Ingram who has two
Ingram girls and an Ingram boy, according to the will.

First wife Ann Williams , Birth:Between 1744 and 1751 in
Isle of Wright County, Virginia
Married: before 1769, as her father refers to her as already being married to John Hardy in his 1769 will.
Death: After. 1788 in Edgefield District, South Carolina
Second wife Ingram- must be after 1790 because Covington was born to Ann Williams after her son John b. 1788 and all 8 children are stated as being “dec’d Ann Williams” children in a VA will around 1803..
The Old Hardy Estate stands in Edgefield Dist., S.C. Six sons built large Baptist Church in S.C. The church was built on the Hardy Estate and stands today, the famous "Hardy's Church" on Old Hamburg Road. Do not know if fotos exist.
Children:
1.John Hardy b.1774 in Isle of Wright County, Virginia
BUT he is not mentioned in the will! He must be dead before SC 1799or does not belong to this family. He is also not in his grandmother Agnes VA will 1820. Butthe same 8 children are in Agnes Hardy’s will as are in John Hardy s from 1799. John is Dead or was not in this family.
J.C.Thompson at

says John Hardy 1774 had a son John born in Edgefield,
no date, dying in Louisiana, and had 2 other children:
Mason Hardy-b. 1820 in Georgia
Hardy, Mason
Comments:The gender of Mason Hardy is male.
Spouse:Malinda George
Marriage Date:Nov 09, 1838

and Richard Hardy b.1810 SC. But maybe they are confused and the younger
John b. 1788 is their ancestor instead of the 1774 John.
2.Richard Hardy- b. before 1775- given a plantation or
home before his father died in 1799-b.1775 in Isle of Wright
County, Virginia d.1843 in Alabama and prson of sam nam is executor of his
father´s will- could be distant rlative. He is in Edgefield Districts 1790 thru 1830 Censuses. Have not checked further. Does anyone know anything or where he is buried? The first census doc. Is below.

3. Henry Hardy-1778 in Isle of Wright County,
Virginia-he cannot belong to this family. He is not in will of father.
And yet he is in CharLeston SC by 1804 and married.
See notes below.
4. Daniel "Danie" Hardy b. Jan. 1777 in Mecklenburg, County, Virginia, but I think Daniel was mixed up on his birth date- he is listed as under 18 in 1799 will of his father, recorded in Edgefield, SC..,d. 1842 , m. 1807, Mary Roebuck, of Edgefieldand moved to AL by 1818 (he is in Dallas Co. 1818 Census and in Edgefield District SC 1820 Census), d.1842 in Lowndes County, Alabama. Dallas Co. Cemetery states:
“b- 1777d- 1842”(but listed as under 18 in 1799 will)
-see below for more info.
5. Sarah Hardy b. abt 1772 married Joseph Cunningham, as stated in Virginia 1825 will of Agnes Williams, Ann Williams mother.
(Maybe son is George Cunningham, born 1808 in South
Carolina -who married Mary Wood in AL in 1834- then
moved to MS, later to AR, where they both died.)( Jesse
Cunninghamb. 1802 Edgefield Co. married in 1823 in Jefferson Co AL to Elizabeth (Bets)
Hewitt, daughter of Goldsmith Whitehouse Hewitt)
6. Mary Hardy about.1783 married Allen Anderson-possible son:
Anderson, George
Father: Anderson, Allen Mother: ,
Birth Date: 20 June 1796 City: Charleston
County: Charl State: SC
7.Robert Hardy-b.1784 died 3 May 1843 Coosa Co AL Old Shiloh Church burial- our relation
1840 Coosa Co. AL census states he is between 50 and 60 year sold
8. William Hardy b. 23 April 1785, d. 18 June 1842- Old Town Cemetery.Marker in Dallas Co. AL states that he was from “Edgefild (sic) S.C. b-23 Apr. 1785- d-18 Jun.1842”
He is in Dallas Co AL 1818 Census and in Edgefield District SC 1820 and 1830 Census
9.John Hardy –b. 30 Dec.1788, d. 13 July - named after dead
older brother?- Old Town Cemetery. Marker in Dallas Co. AL states
“ Edgefield District S.C.b-30 Dec.1788 d-13 July 1851”
He is in Dallas Co AL 1818 Census..
10.Covington Hardy- b. aft. 1788- youngest and to receive main
plantation and 300 acres and the mill on Sweet Water (plantation?)b.30 Dec 1788
in Edgefield District, South Carolina d.13 Jul 1851 in Dallas County, Alabama
11.Betsey Ingram-stepdaughter-b.
12.Fanny Ingram-stepdaughter-b.
13.Thomas Ingram- stepson, according to Billy Parker-could he have changed his name to Thomas Hardy? No, I think the son of Thomas Hardy who lived in Newberry district who is the proven brother of John Hardy 1740 (thru wills in Newberry which Carol Hardy Bryan has studied) bought land thru his kin in Edgefield when they left for AL territory. That is why he or his sonis in the Edgfield 1820 census. The census has to be read.
above Robert Hardy-b.1782 d. 3 May 1843 Coosa Co. AL our relation-
Robert Hardy came from Edgefield District South
Carolina first to the Montgomery area, married 31 JUL
1823 in Montgomery County AL and settled in Coosa
County AL.But ha must hav rturned to SC on occasionbecause hir first sonwas bornin Edgefield in 1825. He came from SC to AL.with his wife to be
Nancy Browning from Green Cö GA
and her brother William Fredederick Browning,
and her sister Martha Browning (wife of Daniel Hogan).
Billy Parker says,
” The travel in that time period was S.C. through Ga. down the old federal road into lower Al. The upper part of AL was still Creek indian territory. Dallas Co. became part of Al. in 1818 andCoosa Co. Al. in 1832 when the Creek Indians ceeded the upper part of Al. to the U S Gov. The Hardy clan followed the movement of the western territory as it became part ofthe federal gov. land.”

“I have some handwritten records that show a Ransome
Meadows m. Sarah Stephens 02/04/1808 and had 7
children. The following is an excerpt from personal
pages (spelling is as found on original):
Ransom Meadows --- Born December 25, 1786. Died April
2, 1863.
Married Sarah Stephens February 4, 1808. Ransom
Meadows was born in Coronade, Warren County, North
Carolina. This is near Raleigh, N.C. He and his wife
and several other relatives are buried in a large
sepulchre or Mausoleum as we call them today. This is
located on two acres of ground in Alexander City,
Alabama. This was part of his large plantation and a
provision was made in his will that if the land was
ever divided and sold this two acres could not be
included. This sepulchre is built of solid rock and
was built by his slaves. At one time he owned more
slaves than anyone in Coosa County. His plantation
covered most of what is now known as Alexander City,
Alabama.
From these same pages a note near Martha Meadows name
says that they are buried in the sepulchre with
Ransome and Sarah. I have searched through typed and
handwritten notes from relatives past, and have found
no references to Martha's children (if any) I hope this helps.

one year. Mt. Meigs is 10 miles east of Montgomery on the route of the
historic old Federal Road, a major traffic artery of it's day.
Moved to Loundes County about 1819 or 1820.
Ransom and all living sons (except William) left Loundensboro and moved
to Talapoosa County to escape malaria and yellow fever. (William outlived
all that left him behind.)
Date of death not known, but buried three miles from Alexander City
(Talapoosa County) 1/4 mile from Elleahatchee (?spelling) near the old Crow place.
Steven, Tom, and Jerry died before the move to Talapoosa County. Moses,
