HEARDING > HARDING Devon, Cornwall
Has anyone found in their research the spelling variation for Harding as HEARDING? AS far as Soundex goes its a near match, but I was wondering if anyone has found anything specific in their family's history, esp for Devonshire and in particular for the west Bideford area such as Buckland Brewer, Woolfarthisworthy, CLovelly, etc
In researching in the LDS Ancestral files my Harding ancestors in UK, I came across a spelling variant as HEARDING, which upon examination showed a curious coincidence that caused me to wonder.

The ancestral files at my local LDS shows in BB DEV a William HEARDING, son of a John and Elizabeth HEARDING chr Oct 15 1815 which squares with my dates (and no other reasonable matches). Also, I know he had an older brother Robert, which shows up also in the same town, same parents, chr May 1814, also fitting in neatly with our information. So far so good!

What do you do with such information--shelve it until there is more to go on, or tentatively conclude that is may be a close enough match to proceed further? Would the actual birth cert shed any light on this? How many of you out there would call this a ‘near match’ or a ‘near miss??
