William Harding re "Will of 1786" Augusta/Savannah GA
Hi,I'm researching the Stewarts of SC and GA, and it has been speculated that our Stewarts were associated with the Hardin(g)s in SC/GA/MS. Icame across the following which might be of some interest to a Hardin(g) researcher, and perhaps someone might have information on the John Stewart named as executor thru marriage.
From:"American Migrations 1765-1799 "Georgia":
"Harding, William.Memorials by the claimant updated (1783),by his executor John Stewart 1786.The claimant from Ireland in 1768 with a number of families who settled on lands between Augusta and Savannah. He constructs machines to clear rice in Savannah from where he went into an Irish settlement called Queensborough and became Captain of the Militia.
He reenlisted on HMS Mentor in 1781 but in the summer of 1782 fell sick and was employed by the Navy Hospital. He made a will 22 May 1786 and died in July of that year.
The petitioner John Stewart was related to him by marriage claim for 100 acres on the south side and 150 acres of the north side of Lambreth Creek and Ogeechee River with a house, grist mill and saw mill, 150 acres at Blackoning SC, two negro women and two negro children.
Supporting affadavits London 1784 by John Mcgillivary and Lachland McGillivary.Note on file of Jan 1788:should the executor John Stewart come from Belfast to Londond to be examined?"
