It would be houten huizen in Dutch. What do you know about Claiborne's wife? I have her name as Margaret Jane Criswell and that she was born in Ireland in 1820 and died in Polk Co in 1893. I did not research this myself since it is a collateral line. I am curious about the name Criswell and wonder if someone might know if she had brothers. I have an Ann Davis Creswell who married William Barnett Hardin's brother Joseph B Hardin. She was the widow of a Cresswell who rec'd a land grant from the Spanish if I read it right. I found a marriage record for Wm Barnett Hardin and Ann Holshousen in Lauderdale Co, Alabama on 20 Aug 1829 but have not found any record of Ann Davis' marriage anywhere. I feel the connection between the two Anns is possible. Can you add anything.
