Dee,
Could that possibly be James Hardiman, son of George Washington Hardiman and his slave, Susan "Sooky" Hardiman, of Robertson County, Tenn.?
My great-great grandfather was Alexander Hardiman, James' brother. Alexander fought in the Civil War, serving in the U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery, 11th Regiment. He is buried in Gibson County, Ind. His wife, Lydia, was the daughter of Henry D. Walden, also a Civil War veteran.
I have been informed that George Washington Hardiman's (or Hardeman's -- I've seen it spelled both ways) children were freed in his will when he died in 1851.
