I read in the post to which I'm responding (and in many other places) that the Francis Hardesty who died 1802 in Franklin Twp., Fayette Co., PA was married to a Susannah Denune. And, sure enough, on the 1810 Franklin Twp., Fayette Co., PA census there is Susanna Hardesty's household enumerated, and she appears to be a widow. But here's the thing: she's listed right next to two Pattersons who are well known to me: (1) James Patterson Sr. (1727-1822) and (2) Robert Patterson (bapt. 1767/69), son of James Jr. And in 1806 a Thomas Patterson of Franklin Twp., Fayette Co., PA (who I believe was son of James Sr.,but can't prove it yet) wrote his will listing granddaughters Rebecka & Elizabeth HARDESTY and grandsons Frances [sic], Thomas, William & James HARDESTY.
James Patterson Sr. wrote his will 1813 and listed all his (living) sons and daughters, and no Susannah was mentioned. (I was wondering if Francis Hardesty could have married a Susanna PATTERSON rather than a Susanna Denune). However, there is obviously a very close relationship between this Susannah Hardesty and these Pattersons.
Does anybody know what this relationship might be? It could provide a valuable clue to me re. the positive identification of the Thomas Patterson who wrote the 1806 will listing Hardesty grandchildren.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Janice (Patterson) Rosenthal
