John Hardesty, Belmont-Muskingum-Coshocton OH, and others

There seems to be some confusion regarding the identity of the John Hardesty who was in Washington Co. PA from at least 1781-1789, then moved through Wheeling VA to Belmont, Muskingum, and Coshocton Cos. in Ohio. This is apparently not the John who married Henrietta Cheney in Maryland in 1788. THAT John died around 1805 (Henrietta apparently died before 1803) in Anne Arundel Co. MD. His children (Mary, Harriet, Richard, Elizabeth, and Elias) were sued in 1805 for a mortgage default on "Benjamin's Choice," which seems to be the same property Henrietta inherited from her father Benjamin Cheney. John had remarried to Agnes Nettles in 1803; she remarried to Richard Simmons in 1806.

The John in Washington Twp., Coshocton Co. in 1820 (John Sr.) appears by land transactions to be the same John from Washington Co. PA who purchased land in 1794 along with Obediah Hardesty. John m. Elizabeth Meek or Meeks, daughter of Samuel and Charity (Boyd) Meek/s. According to the Coshocton history, they had 10 sons and 6 daughters, many of whom moved west. Elizabeth is not on the 1820 census. John is not there in 1830. I think one of their sons was Urias who is also on the 1820 census; I believe he fought along with Samuel Hardesty (probably another son of John and Elizabeth) and my ancestor Abraham Hardesty in the same Muskingum Co. regiment in the War of 1812.

This John Hardesty lived in Bethlehem Twp. in Washington Co. PA. I believe he is a brother or cousin to Obediah, Richard, Hezekiah, Uriah, and Francis Hardesty, all of whom lived in neighboring Morgan Twp. Richard Hardesty at least came from what is now SW Huntingdon Co., the old Dublin Township area, where he first served in the Revolutionary War. Also in that place in 1773, 1775 tax lists and 1790 census was a Joshua Hardesty, and in 1784 and 1790, a Henry Hardesty. Their neighbors' names point to a Baltimore-area connection.

I have four possible Hardesty families in or near Baltimore in the mid-late 1700s:
1. Joshua and Keziah Simmons Taylor Hardesty (this is NOT the Joshua b. 1677 in Calvert Co.; he died in 1742. He had probable sons Joshua and Thomas; Joshua was exec. of the estate, Thomas noted as a "next of kin").
2. Henry and Ann Billingsley Hardesty (married before 1745; members of this family supposedly went to Monongalia Co. VA)
3. Richard Hardesty of Elk Ridge, MD, in the early 1770s. This could be Richard son of Francis and Dorcas, or ????
4. John, Henry, and Joshua Hardesty, 1790 census (John and Henry, Patuxent Hundred, Anne Arundel Co. 1783) Could this be John son of Francis and Dorcas? And did he marry a Matilda Lee? I haven't seen proof of this. I don't believe that the John in St. Mary's Co. who married the Catholic Elizabeth (Boarman?) was the Anne Arundel John.

More info and questions:

The only children mentioned in Francis Hardesty's will were son Francis, a daughter who m. Thomas Smith, and son Thomas (guardian John Fowler). Dorcas remarried to Thomas Harrison, who may have been guardian of other (younger) children, but nothing in the probate records on this.

Alice Brown, wife of Francis Hardesty Jr., remarried to Lewis Duvall. They are neighbors of Robert Hardesty and Elizabeth in PG Co. in 1776 census. Francis and Alice's son Francis 3rd married Susannah Denune and moved to Fayette Co. PA, fairly close to the 10 Mile Creek area of Washington Co. where John, Richard, Obediah etc. lived.

Has anyone ever researched the 1776 PG household of Edmond and Elizabeth Hardesty? Edmond apparently died around the time of the census, leaving his widow (28) and three sons, twins age 5 and a son 1. This notation (5:5:1) has been misread as (55:1), but the census shows there are three children and no adult males in the household.

And in 1790 there are three Hardestys in the PG Co. area of the 1776 Robert and Edmond: Levy, Reason, and "Levie" which could be Lewis or Levin. Reason (b. by 1765, 45+ in 1810 census) is most likely Robert's son mentioned in his 1790 will. Who are the other two?

Lots of people claim that Edmond and Thomas Hardesty of Coshocton Co. are Robert's sons; is there any documented proof of this?

Any info, corrections, help appreciated.
