Deceased Name: HELENE GIORDANO, 93 RETIRED HAIRDRESSER
Helene (Harder) Giordano, a retired hairdresser and co-owner of a beauty salon in Everett Square, died yesterday in Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 93 and lived in Everett.
A New Zealand native, Mrs. Giordano, with her late husband Benjamin, operated Ben's Beauty Parlor during the 1930s and 1940s. From the late 1940s until 1965 she was a foster mother to many wards of the state.
She leaves three sons, William of Allentown, N.H., Benjamin of Malden and Larry, a member of the Massachusetts House, of Methuen; two daughters, Rosemary Petersen of Melrose and Clara Welch of Florida; three sisters, Alma, Rose and Cecelia, all of New Zealand; 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many foster children.
A funeral Mass will be said Saturday in St. Mary's Church, Melrose, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
