In the 1870 Census, Will Ella (Willie) is listed out of order and as a male, but definately 7 years old. (Notice the other sevens and ones on this same census page - I have seen worse acuracy from census takers, but you will see what happens to William...) The under a year old (9/12) William is listed as living with his aunt and uncle Thomas and Marietta Hamilton Folts in Galveston, Galveston Co., TX. Soon afterwards I believe all of the children were "farmed" out to relatives. My great-grandfather John Hamilton "Jack" Hardeman went to live with his half-sister and her family. This was Susan Hardeman Roberts, wife of Joseph Crawford Roberts.
In the 1880 Census all of WPHs youngest children are living with those same Folts, this time in Austin, Travis Co., TX.
Will Ella, Tullius Leonora(Tullie) and William Polk went to live with relatives after the death of Sarah in late 1869.
Eventually, Tullie and William were adopted by the Folts.
Tullie changed her name to Tullie Hardeman Folts and William changed his to William Hardeman Folts.
As for Sarah Hamilton being married to a Reade. This is an incorrect citation which I see as stemming for Mrs. Angellotti in her Polk Genealogy. I actually have a 1858 newspaper citation which reads in its entirety:
"Texas State Gazette, Austin, Texas, (January 30, 1858)
Page 3, Column 5. Marriage Notices
William P. Hardeman married on the 28th December last, at the residence of the bride's father, by Rev. W. T. Wright, to Miss Sallie A. daughter of J. C. Hamilton, Esq. of Prairie Lea, Texas.
Capt. Hardeman, of Guadalupe County."
