Don't know if this will fit into any of the pieces of the puzzle. There was a Peter Herbert married to Catherine, in the 1810 Census of Berkeley Co. Va and the 1820 Census of Morgan Co (formed from Berkeley). His "neighbors" (same census pages) in 1820 included Thomas Harbert and Ambrose Clark and Joshua Clark. In the 1850 Census of Jefferson Co. Ohio, there are Peter and Catherine Harbourt, with sons Cromwell Oric Harbourt, Ambrose Clark Harbourt, Wilson Harbourt and some others.Birthplace of Peter and Catherine is indicated as Maryland. A publication in Kansas indicates that Thomas C. Harbourt of Coffeyville, KS, born in Jefferson Co. Ohio was the son of John Harbourt, son of Peter Harbourt of Jefferson Co. Ohio.It indicates that Cromwell Oric was John's brother.John born 1814 in "Hot Springs" Va (but could be Berkeley Springs).Article also says that Peter Harbourt was born in Germany in 1783 (but the date does not match up to the date Peter gives as his age in the census - about 10 yrs off).John Harbourt's wife was Rachel McClain. His brothers, Cromwell and Ambrose married sisters - Patience and Matilda McClain - who were either sisters or cousnis of Rachel.Note that Cromwell Oric may have been named after Cromwell Orrick, b. 1793son of Judge Nicholas Orrick and Hannah Cromwell - prominent family of Berkeley Co. Va.Two other things:
1) in a web page article about "josiah Herbert" there is a discussion about a Peter Herbert believed to be Josiah's cousin or brother. This Peter lived in Berkeley Co. - wife Mary.He left a will probated in 1802 which left property to his son Peter Jr. and his wife Catherine. If this Peter Jr. is the same who later moved to Ohio - then looks like the 1783 date may be correct for a birthdate, but not born in Germany. This Peter Sr. and Peter Jr. apparently descend from the Herbert's of New Jersey. However, I still have not connected up whether this is the same Peter and Catherine who moved to Ohio.2) I am trying to connect up my husband's gggrandfather, Israel Harbourt to this Peter family or otherwise determine who his father is.Israel (b. 1818 in Virginia ) married Elizabeth Speer in Jefferson Co. Ohio in 1844but they lived in Harrison Co.Their children: John William, Albert Wilson, Martha Jane, Cyrus Oscar.Israel and his wife died young - their children ended up living nearby to Thomas Harbourt's family in Daviess Co. Ky.Thomas born 1812 in Va.probably Israel's brother. Because Israel's son is named "Wilson" and Peter had a son named "Wilson", and because Israel married in Jeff. Co. OH where Peter lived - I'm thinking there may be a connection.Any info you may have - please let me know.
