Hi from the Poconos. Just found your site. I was born Happe. My father's family came from France back in the 1800s, but they probably bordered Germany. I was always told that we were descended from French Huguenots. My father was Richard E. Happe, born in NYC 1925-2009. His father died when he was three years old and we really don't know too much about the rest of them. Grandpa was gassed in WWI in France and got sick. He had a relapse of the sickness in 1928. That is what killed him so young. There are no other immediate sibblings to my father, but my grandfather was supposed to be from a large family. When my grandfather died, my grandmother became estranged from the Happe clan. There are a few cousins that I met over the years, and I am sure I am related to a number of Happe's in the NY-NJ area.
