I have not had much time to work on our family history since I started this forum on the Hanssen's but am curious about your branch. I have studied all of the responses and am finding a lot of names that are also in our branch, but with different parents. I am suspecting that your branch is not on my tree but may be connected. I will give you some of the info from my tree for others to see.

My great great grandfather was Jacob Hanssen of Wendbergen, Pastor in Meldorf Rector, 1/21/1799-4/9/1878, married Catherine Wilhelmina Augusten Wolf on 11/9,1828. I only have a detail tree on his three sons who came to the U.S. The following info is exactly as is on the tree I have, and some don't make sense.

Jacob's other children:Heinrich Christian Wolf Hanssen, Atty, 1/3/1831-1869 -had 3 children Barnhardt 1859, Wilhelmina Etta married cousin Dr. Harden, Margeret married to Professor Sass, and grandson Herman Sass 7/18892, Jacobs other children- Marie Dorethea Aug. Hansen 10/31/1832-1892, 2nd wife of Pastor Harder, Wilhemena (Minna) 12/6/1834-1873 1st wife of Hans Harder.

Heeinrich Christian Hanssen 5/24/1817-1898, Jacobs father, my ggg grandfather has several children listed with no further trees on any of his branches other than Jacob's.
His children included: Heinrich Christian, 1898, Claus Hanssen - youngest son, Minnie married to Heinrich in Windbergen, Antie married to Hentz in Windbergen, Heinrich, son of Heinrich Hanssen in Windbergen was adopted and became heir to Boggens?

Going on down the tree was Claus Hanssen Oldest son of Christian J., 5/13/1742-12/12/1824 in Windbergen, brothers Heinrich and joh. Christian(fled from Wendbergen to Suderfolen, and sister Rene.

Christian J. Hanssen b 1702, took over his fathers lands, had 8 children 4 died young, 4 had to flee to Delmarschen.

ORIGINATION OF THE NAME HANSSEN, AT LEAST IN OUR TREE -

The rest is real unclear - Bottom entry is Hans Lohndorf, Freeholder in Wankendorf Estate Dezlnan Kirchspid, +1670, shows one branch Johann, had 2 daughters, another branch, Armus, for fear of bondage left the county with his brother Dellen, settled in Ditmarschen, took his fathers name Hans and changed it to Hanssen, and one other name not showing the connection, Pretler Hanssen b in March in Ricklishof near Hemmingestedt acquired a fortune.

The Wolf tree follows a similar path, from Oldenwarden in 1640 to Hanover, Oldesloe, Hamburg, Wilster, then Missouri in the mid 1800's.

The Hanssen's in my tree appear to have begun coming to the U.S. around 1850 as near as I can tell. One of my Dad's great uncles fought in the civil war, but his grandfather did not come over until between 1867 and 1876. My Dad's aunt Dora was born in Hamburg in 1867, his uncle Fred Albert in Germany in 1865, but his father was born in the US in 1876. Uncle Fred Albert had a trading post in Tempe Az. On the railroad map it was shown as "Hanssen's siding".

My grandfather and one or two of his brothers dropped the 2nd s from our name, now Hansen, because of discrimination against the Germans around WWI time or before.
