Harrison,
Thank you for your note.William C. Hanson was my 3rd great grandfather.I am descended through his son John A. Hanson and his wife, Mary Jane Shuck. So you and I are cousins. My father's remaining brother still resides in Charleston, WV.
I had also thought that there might be a connection to the Hanson's in Charles County, MD but have found no evidence of a connection.I've been learning some about the early wilderness trails and river routes that may have brought the Hanson's to the Kanawha Valley.Have you any idea how they may have arrived in the Valley and from what eastern city they came? The Hanson's appear to have been among the Valley's early settlers.
I have also found a census reference to the family, but spelled Henson. The children's names all matched the later entry for Hanson."Henson" would be shortened from "Henry's son" rather than "Hans' Son".Possibly a difference between being English (or Irish) and being German. But it could be either.
Several years ago, before I knew the value and kept any record of sources, I found the names Cutlip Eary and Elizabeth Hughart and thought that they were Margaret Eary's parents.Could Elizabeth have been Margaret's grandmother?I'll have to go back end re-discover that reference.I had no hint of the information that you included on the Gotleib Ihrig family and the Anglicized version of their name.Thank you for it.It gives me another trail to search. Can you share your source data for their relationship with me?
Quoted notes for WILLIAM HENSON SR (from unknown, unconfirmed sources):
Pension Application dated 30 Jul 1818:
"William enlisted in the army in 1776 in Botetourt County, Virginia in the company commanded by Captain Thomas Posey of the 7th Virginia regiment commanded by Colonel Elis McClenachan. Signed up for two years. He was discharged from service in 1778. He delivered his discharge papers to Colonel George Hancock at Valley Forge in order to draw his pay but never received it. He was in a skirmish in the regiment commanded by Colonel Morgan at Piscataway in the army and he received "a most dangerous" wound."
I recall that I copied this from someone else's website long ago..
"It is known that, William, the oldest son of our John I returned to Front Royal where he married the daughter of John Tuckwyller, who was an early resident of that town. The daughter, Civilla Tuckwyller, removed soon afterward with her husband, William, to the Greenbrier river home where they lived with or near the John Hansons. Records have been found that the Tuckwyllers moved their land holdings and families to a farm near Lewisburg in Greenbriar County. This land was prominently involved in Civil War when a battle was fought within its confines and is today held by the Tuckwyller family."
Show possible birth date of 24 May 1755 in Botetourt, Va Died 1824 in Botetourt, VA
Thanks for all the information,
Ron
