Hello Andrew: I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,700,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%. Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database. Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome). For Laurence Hanratty M 1916 +/- 2 yrs, Co. Louth, I found 0 rcds. For a LAURENCE Hanratty B 1895 +/- 1 yr, Co. Louth, with the father's forename unknown, I found 1 rcd in 1894, Drogheda RC parish. This seems to fit your criteria very closely. The father's forename was Laurence. For Laurence Hanratty M 1890 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Louth, I found 1 rcd in 1892, Drogheda RC parish. For Laurence Hanratty B 1867 +/- 4 yrs, somewhere in Ireland, with the father's forename unknown, I found 2 rcds, 1866, Co. Meath, both in St. Mary's Drogheda. The father's forenames were both Thomas. These look like duplicate rcds. For Thomas Hanratty M 1862 +/- 4 yrs, somewhere in Ireland, I found 2 rcds: 1863 Co. Armagh, Upr Creegan RC parish, and 1863 Co. Louth, Dundalk RC parish. For Thomas Hanratty (Armagh) B 1839 +/- 4 yrs somewhere in Ireland, with the father's forename unknown, I found 2 rcds in 1841, Shankhill parish/district, and unknown. Father's forenames were both John. These may be duplicate rcds. For Thomas Hanratty (Louth) B 1839 ditto, I found 0 rcds. The closest match within a relevant range is for a "Thoms" in 1826, Dundalk RC parish. Father's forename was "Michl." For Mic(hael) Hanratty (Louth) M 1822 ditto, I found 1 rcd in 1825, Co. Louth, Dundalk parish. For John Hanratty (Armagh) M 1837 ditto, I found 0 rcds. The closest feasible rcd is for 1827, Co. Armagh, Upr Creegan parish. I got a long run out of this. At each stage starting from the top, you have to view the detailed rcd to identify the parent's names. This info can be used to validate earlier B/M/ rcds. Have fun. Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg. Hope this helps. Good luck.
