Hi Jack. I bet I got a bit confusing along the way. My grandfather was John Edward Henretty and the John Hanretty(notice the a instead of e) that I found in the ellisisland records could possibily be the same person, but that is a guess until I get some facts. If I knew who John Hanretty was married to then I would be pretty sure that John Hanretty and John Edward Henretty are the same person. My mother is the only one of that generation that is still alive. She is not Irish and her memory is starting to fail so.... Now I'll see if I can get any info thru records around Virginia,Ireland.
