Hanrahans in Galway?
Have been researching my ancestors for a few years now and the only reference to a place in Ireland is Galway. Michael Hanrahan was residing in Galway at the time of his brother, Thomas', death in 1912. Thomas and Michael were the sons of Thomas Hanrahan and his wife Mary Murphy. Thomas was born December of 1844 but have no birthplace except for Ireland. He moved to New York in 1861 and only had 1 surviving child. There was also a sister, Mary, who married a Gilmore, according to Thomas' will. He mentions also: Mary, wife of his cousin John Hanrahan; and 2 cousins, Ellen and Hannah Murphy, both residing in Manhattan, NY. I have had no luck with this family and am at a deadend with it. I have tried to locate Old Age pensioner's claims for Ireland but have not been able too.
Am afraid to start researching the Murphy family as it is a common name, so I am hoping to locate an origin in Ireland through Hanrahan.
