Kathy: I saw your request for Hannon. There may be a small connection. The difference is you list Mason County, Va and mine is Mason County, Ky. My great-grandfather was John Dwyer; his wife was Mary Hannon. They lived in Maysville, Ky, which is Mason County, Ky. There were six children to John and Mary Hannon Dwyer: Mary (4/10/1861), my grandmother Margaret (7/10/1873+/-), Tom, who was the youngest, and three others.

If this is the same family, it becomes problematic with first names. See? John and Mary Hannon Dwyer, and a child named Mary. I don't know if this would be of help, but my Dwyer/Hannon family were Catholic. It may be possible to search church records.

Maysville is a sweet little community; sits on the Ohio River. It isn't too far from Cincinnati or Lexington.

You wondered about family in North Carolina...Hannons can be found here - western North Carolina. A look-see for phone listings might give you some help.

Let me know if we are on the same search.
