Sir Robert Hannay and Captain Andrew Adair are mentioned in the History of Sligo. In 1641 Sir Robert Hannay held the Castle of Belleek for some time, but was captured. (His dau Jane m. Col.*Coote). Capt. Andrew Adair, and Sir Robert Hannay and his family (who were his family ?) were spared for the purpose of exchange and ransom. Capt. Andrew Adair was to pass saffe from Beleek in County of Mayo, Ireland to Bellishanan, co. Downegall (Donegal, Ireland). .......................... About 1660 my Capt. Andrew Adair was granted land in St. Johnstown, co. Longford, Ireland. His son, Charles Adair m. Elinor Cooke who may have been a descendant of *Coote. (Possibly in Dublin Reg. of Deeds). ........................ In the Calendar of the Patent and Close Rolls of Chancery in Ireland, pp.349, 350, 351. 4 May 1628 Robert Hannay (from Mochrum, Wigtownshire, Scotland) was made a free denizen of Ireland. He was granted lands of Killcroney alias Kilcrone and Killmackanacke alias Killmackinoge, territory of Clancapp, Glancapp, co. Wicklow, Ireland, with Thomas Maule. The lands may have been from the Earl of Meath. An interesting side aspect was that these are the same lands (Kilcroney, Kilmacanogue, co. Wicklow, Ireland, Parish of Delgany) which were in my family - handed down from Robert Adair who was grandson of the above Andrew Adair who was with Robert Hannay in 1641. The lands were near the Powerscourt Estate. John Lambert who m. dau of above Robert Adair was the agent for Robert Adair. Lambert may have descended from the Lambert who was with Wingfield and Cromwell, as Wingfield had Powerscourt. My g-g-g-grandfather had the livings of several parishes in the area, one being Delgany where a descendant of Robert Hannay may have been in the 1800s. http:// books.google.com/books?id=87dnAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA14&dq=Chancery+%22Patrick+Hannay%22&lr=&num=100&as_brr=0&as_pt=ALLTYPES#PPA350,M1 Notify Administrator about this message?
