Hi Fran,
I've been to the "Leitrim-Roscommon" site, too, and know that there certainly could be a potential match.I've also been to Otherdays.com looking for the frequency of both the Hanley and White surnames in the Civil Parishes of County Roscommon, of which there are many.Don't have any Berne connections, though.
Thanks for the information on the naming patterns.I'll keep that in mind.Short of hearing from descendants of the children of Thomas and Bridget (White) Hanley -- most of whom were born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the 1850's -- I need to continue looking for records in Milwaukee sources in the hopes that those records yield some clues about the birth place of Thomas and Bridget. That's the most logical place to start.I found the church they attended and have obtained some records, but the children were scattered to different families or orphanage after their mother died in the late 1850's, so it's been difficult tracking them. It's an uphill battle, but I thank you for taking the time to respond.
Carole Magnuson.
