Harry E. Hanley Memorial services for Harry E. Hanley, of Elgin and La Quinta, Calif., will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the First Congregational Church, 417 W. Main St., West Dundee. The Rev. Pam Pendexter will officiate. Born Dec. 28, 1915, in Kansas City, Mo., he died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at his home in Elgin. Mr. Hanley attended Pembrook Country Day School. In 1934, he entered Dartmouth College, where he majored in history. He was a member and secretary of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the Dragon Society. During World War II, Mr. Hanley was stationed on the East coast and served in the Navy Supply Corps, achieving the rank of lieutenant senior grade. His business career included being president of Harry E. Hanley and Associates, a sales management firm, and vice president of Metal Impact Corporation. He also served as a co-founder and director in Simpson House, the Elgin Airport Holiday Inn, and as a director with the Elgin National Bank. Harry was an avid golfer all of his life, and at the age of 70, won the Chicago District Golf Association Senior Championship low net, and at 77, the Super Seniors Championship. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dundee, a lifetime member of the Elgin Country Club and the La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy D. Hanley; sons, Fred (Marte) Hanley of Wichita, Kan., and John (Peggy) Hanley of Elgin; stepdaughter, Kim (James) Ernst of Elgin; and his granddaughters, Marian (Matthew) Mead of Boston, Charlotte Hanley of Minneapolis and Casey Ernst of Elgin.
