I am rather new to researching the Hanks family - in last couple of months found their connection to my Utterback family line (Matilda/Abner/John/John I/William I/Thomas).
I have recently purchased "The Hanks Family of Virginia and Westward" which has been quite helpful -- but I've run into some conflicting data, some of which I've seen mentioned while searching through old posts, and I'm curious to know if anyone has come up with a parentage for Nancy that's more plausible than the others. I'm sure it's not settled but is there any general consensus? Before getting the Baber book, from info I found I had Nancy the daughter of Joseph, son of John I/William I/Thomas (which is how it was laid out in my Utterback family book. But, then with the Hanks book it looks like she's really the daughter of Abraham, son of Luke I. Then I came across the David Sturgill article which says, yes, Abraham was her father but he was actually the son of Richard Sr./William II/ William I/Thomas. And it seemed he was saying that Baber had agreed with him, but the revised edition of the Hanks book doesn't seem note that. His article is interesting, lot of data, but no real sources cited and I'm not at all sure who he's referring to as siblings of Abraham and other people he mentions -- John, Joshua, etc. There are so many choices one could make it seems. Does anyone have a pretty good handle on this -- has any progress or break through been made in pinning down Nancy's family yet?
