The Luke Hanks that died in 1789 in Pendleton county SC has by many people been confused with his father Luke.Luke Hanks III was born around 1740 and died in 1789.The younger children that most people show as belonging to Luke Hanks I were actually the children of his son Luke Hanks Jr who died in 1757.The wife of Luke Hanks III 1740-1789 was named Nancy Ann,her last name is unknown,Luke's mother I believe was Sarah Dale,the sister of the Robert Dale that left Luke 160 acres in his Will of 1778,Robert Dale had no children,he left his estate to his wife and nieces and nephews,Robert and his wife were both born in Richmond county VA,they moved to Prince William county as did Luke Hanks and his brother Abraham.
Luke Hanks Jr. born c.1715 died in 1757 in Lancaster county VA,most of his children were minors when he died,his wife Sarah purchased a bed and rug from his estate.Shown below is the ancestry of Luke Hanks III.

1715-1757 Luke Hanks = Sarah Dale
1740-1789 Luke Hanks = Nancy Ann
