I do have documentation that James Stewart Hanks (1806-1882) is a son of Rev. William Hanks(1770-1825). After William's death there was a dispute over land that Nicholas Hanks had bought from his father (Rev. William Hanks), but the deed had never been filed. Nicholas had to file a chancery suit in order to get the matter resolved.
The case was titled "Nicholas A Hanks vs. Heirs of Wm. Hanks Dec'd". The heirs are named as " Peter Hanks, James S Hanks, Stephen Fisher & Ruth Fisher his wife formerly Ruth Hanks, Timothy Mayhall and Betsy[Elizabeth] his wife formerly Betsy Hanks, John Mayhall and Matilda Hanks his wife formerly Matilda Hanks & Malinda Hanks, heirs of William Hanks Decd."
James Stewart Hanks had 8 children from his first wife, Rose Hannah McMullen.........
William, Sarah Ann, Eli, Narcissa, James W, Cordelia, Artemesia and Ophelia
And 6 more with his second wife, Eliza Spore.....
Elizabeth, Henry M, Mary Ann, Commodore Perry, Matilda Jane and Marion T.
