Thanks for the notes. there is one item you list that falls into the category of documentary evidence, the census of 1850, and goes to supporting the 1809 date. After 1832 Abe had developed his interest in politics and so can be attributed with a possible motive to keep his birth year tidy, as he would have known by then that his history was a matter of public interest, so it does not close the door to the alleged 1804 birth year. The Mr. Enloe you have cited was of Ky . His statements have no bearing on the NC Enloe claim. The published sources are Cathay and Coggins , the storekeeper incident has appeared in hundreds of history books as well. The original interviews with the minister are unpublished and are among the Lincoln Papers at the National Archives. I would agree with your point #6 and have not seen #7. The source for Tom Lincolns' connection to NC is from Abraham Lincoln's autobiography and places his father in NC for at least one year just prior to his marriage to Nancy Hanks. These statements not only do not contradict the NC Enloe claims, but in some respects support them. I don't think Herndon ever stated that Tom Lincoln had no family in or near NC, but if he did, he was in error. As for myself, I said 'brother' when I meant 'Uncle', Tom Lincoln's 'Uncle' lived in NC. I apologize for my miswriting. I should type slower I suppose. It should also be remembered that the Enlow NC family was located about one weeks travel from the Lincoln KY homestead, and Abram Enloe's married daughter lived there, so the distances between the Enloe's of NC and the LIncoln's of KY were not that great and visits between the Enloes and their daughter in KY would surely have occurred, further supporting a link to Ky for these Enloes. You seem highly offended by this line of research as you always include at the close of your notes what seems to me to be a sentence or two intended as a 'parting shot', as if you are writing notes to an adversery. I assure you, I am not your enemy. I am not attempting to offend anyone with this line of inquiry. I am simply preparing a booklet for researchers that outlines all the proposed lineages related to Abraham Lincoln and thought some of the users of various message boards might have information to hand that I do not. Not all Presidents have alternative lineages. Our 16th President does. The booklet will include the supporting and detracting evidence in outline form for each proposed lineage, and of course, the notation that the historically accepted version is the 'born 1809 fathered by Thomas Lincoln' line. It should also be remembered that his presidency and political career are not the only nor even the most likely motives for adjusting his birth year, if indeed he did. A careful study of his character has convinced me personally that the only reason he would take such a measure would be to protect an innocent person, and I think he would do it to protect his 'Angel Mother' if , in fact, it were necessary. So, I hope you will accept these observations in the spirit they are intended, and hopefully, won't be personally offended by the questions they raise. Again, I appreciate the time and trouble you have gone to post all of this information, and if I find the documentary evidence that would close the door to this particular alleged line, I will certainly post it on this board.
