Proof of his marriage to Louraney Wier 1st and then to Orpha Thompson. Don't care too much for the second wife as Louraney & Alford had only 2 children, John T. Lillard (married his cousin Arta Elizabeth Hankins) & Sarah Malina, the latter being my ggg-grandmother. She married Wm Henderson Joplin. Sarah was born in 1857. Within a short period of time Louraney had died. It was in 1859 that Alford married Orpha. Sarah was 2, give or take a few months. My mother remembers Sarah Malina as she sat on the front porch smoking a corn-cob pipe and wearing "17 petticoats". My mother asked her great-grandfather why grandma Lina was so mean and he replied that she grew up dirt poor with a mean stepmother...that her childhood was not a happy one. My mom told me she was scared of Sarah but she made the best jam in the world. I have a photo of Sarah Malina when she was about 10 or so. She does not look very happy.
