George, I noticed that both Bennet and Robert Haney, sons of John W. and Jane Wilson say independently on census reports that their father was born in Ohio and their mother from Kentucky. Robert's I found in 1880 and Bennet's I found in 1900. I'm still looking for the 1880 census on Bennet. I would also like to know the names of George Haney's wife or children, to try and locate him on a census in 1880 or afterwards and see where he said his father was from.
John is proving to be a big brick wall for me too, I have been focusing my search on Haney households in Ohio around the time John W. would have been born. I have only been able to find four of them, on the 1809 and 1810 Ohio census. One was an Abraham, one was a Jane, one was a John, and the other was a James.
I have found follow up information on James, on 2 indpendent websites. Each says that he had a son named John W. Haney, born in 1801. Both say that this John W. was married to a Rebecca Walker, and then to a Nancy Peterman. But one of these also mentions another wife, named Jane. However, the one that does not include Jane lists the children of John W. and Rebecca, and they are not our people. I have contacted the owners of both websites, to try and get information on their sources, I haven't heard back.
Let me know if you find further information on John W. and I will do the same.
