Only male Haneys can participate since it involves the Y chromosome.Males have an X and a Y chromosome with the Y chromosome coming from the father. (Females have 2 X chromosomes.) Theoretically, if there were no mishaps along the way, the Y chromosome would have come from the "original" Haney male.I have read where researchers have tested males from along the coast of England in an attempt to see where their male ancestors came from. Most people assumed that they were originally of Norse ancestry.Didn't turn out to be the case in all areas.
It can possibly help determine the place of origin of ancestors if enough people are involved in the study.
