Marilyn, I can give info regarding Haynies migrating from GA to AL.My gg-grandmother was Malissa (or Melissa) Abercrombie, the only daughter of a Cherokee Indian chief. She married Martin Haynie. She was born 1839, died 12/26/1878. Malissa is buried in Rome, Georgia.Their children were George, Verilla, William, Martin, Newton, Josephine. My g-grandmother is Verilla. She married John Franklin Elliott. My grandmother was Emma Elliott, married William Edward Hampton Hurtte (or Hurt).Emma and some of her siblings were born in Rainbow City, AL and Gadsden, AL.Emma and her husband migrated to IL, but I don't know when.My dad, Rayford Hurtte, was born in Gadsden, AL.However, I don't know if any of these are related to your Haneys.I would like to find out that they are, cause I am trying to find ancestors of Malissa and Martin. My e-mail is [email protected].
By the way, I have found Elliotts on the Dawes rolls, even a John, but I don't know if he is my g-grandfather or not.My grandmother was definitely Indian, and she looked full blooded, but I have not made that connection yet.
