Hi Jeff,
I *might* have a connection for you.I saved a copy of a WWI draft card that I'm convinced has to be a great uncle, Freeman Melvin Hane, even though the address on the card *appears* to be Grand Rapids, Wood Co, Wisconsin, and they had moved from Iowa to Itasca Co (Grand Rapids) Minnesota around 1901-04.
Freeman's wife was named Martha. After WWI his family, along with my grandfather Robin Leath Hane and his family moved to ND for a time, then moved to Itasca Co Minnesota again.
Their mother, Mary C (McLaren) Hane, remarried a man named Jacob Edighoffer, had one son, divorced, and moved with her son to Wibaux, Montana, where she lived out the rest of her life.My grand father would go to visit her from time to time.
My gf Robin's wife Helen (Fraser) had a terrific brother named Ronald. An uncle and I are named after him.If he and Freeman rubbed shoulders, he could be the source of that name in your family as well.
So may be this non-michigander is worth considering.
